Baptisms

Celebrate your Baptism at San Francisco’s Renowned Swedenborgian Church
Jesus said,

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” -Matthew 19:3

Baptism of a child carries three significant meanings among the Swedenborgian churches. It signifies:

The introduction and reception of the child into the Lord’s Church on earth.
The wiliness and commitment of parents to nurture and provide for the child in the way that pleases the Lord.
And the willing invitation for influence and protection from heavenly beings upon the child’s spirit.

Being conscious of these meanings, the Swedenborgian Church does not baptize a child into this denomination, but into the Lord’s Church in a broad, ecumenical concept.

Symbolism of Elements in Baptism

The water used in the Sacrament of Baptism is the symbol of the cleansing and freeing power of Divine Truth. The application of water, signifying truth, carries with it the parents’ acknowledgement that you will guide your child in the way which the Lord has taught us, until by his/her volition s/he chooses the path s/he will follow.
