This Sunday’s Service – June 14th with Rev. Dr. Devin Zuber – Worship in Meditation
Leaves for the Healing of the Nations: June 19th approaches: a date that for over two hundred years, various Swedenborgian communities have commemorated as part of our collective spiritual tradition. It also marks the end of slavery in the United States, and for many Americans, especially in the Black community, it has long been a day of celebrating freedom from oppression. This meditative service with music reflects on the shared inheritance of Juneteenth, with an eye towards how Swedenborg read the Book of Revelations—perhaps the strangest, most unruly text in the Bible—as a writing about spiritual liberation. At the center of John’s vision of the city of the New Jerusalem is the Tree of Life, with its “leaves of the trees for the healing of the nations”: a symbol of divine spiritual truths, spiritual medicines, open and available for all the peoples of the world.
